Chris is an expert on philanthropy, working with some of the world’s best-known INGOs as well as foundations, cultural and educational organisations. He is actively involved in research into philanthropy and its motivations, and this year and next he is working on a research project in Islamic philanthropy at the University of Barcelona. Chris come from Scotland, and have lived in Catalonia/Spain for many years, working across Europe, the Middle East and South America on philanthropy and fundraising projects.
There are community foundations all across Europe…except in Sweden. In this session, led by philanthropy expert Chris Carnie, we will take a look at this fast-growing sector in Europe, understand what a community foundation does, find out why donors like them and use case studies to show how they start, grow and function. This workshop is especially relevant for anyone working in communities in Sweden, as well as fundraisers interested in international trends, and social entrepreneurs.
What are major donors looking for? What do they see, and what do they miss, in NGOs and foundations? Why are so many philanthropists starting their own foundation (instead of giving to your organisation)? What tools do we have to attract them? Chris Carnie, who loves major donors (and has worked with a few!) will take you through the latest research on major donors and their motivations, and look at the tools – including Donor Advised Funds, and investment for impact – that can help build a long-lasting and strong relationship between philanthropist and non-profit.
